Abstract: |
In 1993 Kone Corporation was Finland’s 11th largest company with sales of FIM 11 billion. The company employed 21,000 people all over the world. Kone was engaged in several businesses ranging from elevators to wood handling equipment. According to the management, the company’s business was in ‘vertical transportation.’ The case is about corporate strategy in a more advanced level of studies. It deals with issues such as core competence, diversification vs. specialization, internationalization and globalization, cross-border acquisitions and alliances, and financing growth. |
